In his inaugural address to the Royal Spanish Academy, Fernando Fernán Gómez not only sought to reclaim the power of words as an indispensable tool in his profession, but also as an infallible instrument of freedom and progress for anyone throughout history. This love for language, this kind of veneration for its untamed nature and its inexhaustible capacity to open doors to mysterious worlds, placed him, in a vulnerable position, offering enormous theatrical possibilities and allowing us to humanize the character, stripping him of the stereotypical image of the austere man with which he has become known.

Therefore, in this production, we have chosen to imagine not the eminent author, actor, and director, but the simple man in solitude: fragile like everyone else and surrounded by the same insecurities as anyone. And we have turned him into the nervous and excited protagonist of his own reverie (perhaps on a night very close to his entry into the Academy) invoking his beloved ‘word’, in a kind of dreamlike rehearsal, to help him articulate the best possible speech and to get through the difficult ordeal, similar to that of any premiere, which would involve defending it before the public.
