The town square, where every mystery is solved and every disagreement ends in revelry. The music of José Serrano, the maestro from Sueca, articulates in the imagination of Enrique Viana, creator of this comic-lyrical absurdity, a lighthearted and contemporary plot in a string of romances and ensemble numbers chosen from the Valencian maestro’s lesser-known works, in a show that pays sincere homage to the escapist theater so popular in pre-Civil War Spain. A bel canto tenor, stage director, and tireless creator, Madrid native Enrique Viana has, with his shows and performances, brought about a process of renewal in zarzuela, fusing music, good humor, and current affairs in a lighthearted tone that connects directly with the audience. Under this spirit of dissemination and revitalization of the Spanish lyric genre, Viana has devised the show “A mystery of sainete or zarzuela in the pot”, starring the artists of the Centre de Perfeccionament, where various romances and zarzuela scenes by the Valencian José Serrano are brought together with additions typical of the dramaturgy of a show conceived from the perspective of humor and respect, without the zarzuela losing an iota of its essence.
