The mother of all musicians! The joy of the Golden Age of Broadway. Gypsy is one of the greatest musical artists of all time and for the first time came to Spain. With book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, it is an original stage play by Antonio Banderas, with musical direction by Arturo Díez Boscovich, translation of the book by María Ruiz, translation of lyrics by Roser Batalla and choreography by Borja Rueda.
Musical theater star Marta Ribera plays Gypsy in the Rose Paper, accompanied by Lydia Fairén as Louise, Carlos Seguí as Herbie, and Laia Prats playing June. The show will feature three original choreographies by Jerome Robbins (one of the great choreographers and directors of musical history such as West Side Story or The Violinist in the Tejado Among Many Others).
Gypsy is the definitive story about an ambitious “artist’s mother” who seeks the outcome of her hijas, while secretly loves her own. Based loosely on the memoirs of burlesque artist Gypsy Rose Lee, the central plot revolves around the character of Rose, Gypsy’s mother, an implacable woman who seeks to convert her hijas into vodestars at any price.
Breathed freely in America of the twenty and three decades, when voice and burlesque were born, this musical reference by Arthur Laurents explores the world of entertainment with humor, courage and sophistication.
The famous score by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim is performed directly by 18 musicians of the Soho Larios Pop Orchestra, under the musical direction of Arturo Díez Boscovich, including great musical successes such as If You Open a Path of Roses, Go to Entreteneros, Don’t Read My Books, Invent a Dream touch or Unidos follow us.
